| Customer Reviews: Great product November 24, 2009 Typical Consumer (Average, CA USA) I replaced this piece on my mustang GT and everything works great... go for it. Comes with all the nuts and bolts required to get it done.
4.6 INTAKE February 3, 2009 RSREAD (DSM IA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Best price as new. Too much time involded to risk using anything used. Took me about 6 hours taking old intake off, and another 6 to put it on. Did it outside in the cold.
Goto [...] To know what you'er getting into. It's on a 97, mine was a 2001 police Crown Vic. A little different.
Biggest problem was a backside brace on driver side, bolts in from firewall, bolts go in by firewall toward front, no way to get to. Cut brace in half; had to reuse it, one of the bolts (torque # 3,) holds the intake on. And the (torque # 7,) bolt is a B%#@% just guessed with a wrench on it's torque.
Other than the cold, and guessing which alternator bracket to use, I only used one, directions doesn't state one or the other, or that you use only one of the 2 provided,)it fired right up, no leaks.
Hint: take close photos of every item you unhook, can save ya a lot of guessing. I didn't take everything apart. the throttle body and the intake, used a bunggy cord and held it up out of the way. EGR just unbolted from the throttle body, wasn't really in the way. Fuel rails / injectors just bend over by the fender. Great time to change your plugs. Ready to go 100,000 more miles.
GOOD LUCK!
Great but for one exception December 8, 2009 charles mahaney (Florida USA) First off-great price. Second fast shipping, I got it in 3 days. Most importantly This product works. It's installable by a shadetree mechanic, and his two sons with normal tools. Now all that, to my judgement, rates 5 stars. However, the brackets for the alternator are not marked. Worst was that one of the threaded brass inserts to attach the throttlebody was badly galled. I had some anxious moments oiling up a screw to chase the threads. I think the threads may have been contaminated with something non-metalic, because the screw's threads were not deformed in any way. I would buy from the manufacturer again due to price, and overall quality.
IMHO if the brackets were marked this would a perfect kit, because I doubt the defective threads are a common quality problem.
Obstructs 2 spark plug holes May 4, 2009 odaralvaac 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Visually, the quality of the Dorman intake's material and workmanship seems to be better than the Ford stock intake on my 2001 Mustang GT. The Dorman intake uses an aluminum crossover as opposed to the unreliable plastic crossover on the Ford stock intake (Ford corrected this problem in 2002). The Dorman intake also uses integrated O-rings instead of traditional gaskets, which simplifies installation and probably improves reliability (traditional gaskets have a tendency to trap coolant between the gasket and aluminum cylinder head on the Ford 4.6 liter engine. Over time, trapped coolant can eat away the aluminum). After I installed the Dorman intake, my car ran beautifully.
Couple of weeks later, I decided to change the spark plugs. However, I unpleasantly discovered that the Dorman intake partially obstructed 2 spark plug holes on the passenger side (the rear 2 spark plugs next to the intake passages marked with torque sequences 4 and 8). The obstruction was enough to block out my Craftsman 5/8 spark-plug socket, which means that changing these 2 spark plugs would require removal of the intake manifold again ... an unreasonable expectation. This problem did not exist with stock Ford intake.
If it weren't for this flaw, I would rate this product with 5 stars.
